Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Food Innovations, Nutrition, and Environmental Sciences (JFINES) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and ethics in scholarly publishing. We take plagiarism seriously and employ rigorous measures to detect and prevent it throughout the publication process.

1.0 Initial Plagiarism Check

Upon submission, all manuscripts undergo a preliminary plagiarism check by the JFINES editorial office. This is done using advanced plagiarism detection software to ensure the originality of the content. Our policy on plagiarism is as follows:

  • Minor Plagiarism (20%-25% similarity index): If a manuscript contains between 20%-25% plagiarized content, the authors will be notified and requested to revise the manuscript to eliminate the plagiarized sections. The manuscript will only proceed to the review stage after the necessary revisions are made.
  • Substantial Plagiarism (>25%): Manuscripts with more than 25% plagiarized content are immediately rejected. The authors will be informed of the rejection and the reasons for it, and the manuscript will not be considered further unless significant revisions are made.

2.0 Reviewer Plagiarism Check

In addition to the initial check, JFINES reviewers are also tasked with identifying potential plagiarism during the peer review process. Reviewers will assess the originality of the manuscript and can recommend rejection if they find evidence of substantial plagiarism.

3.0 Post-Acceptance and Post-Publication Plagiarism

Plagiarism checks do not end with the acceptance of a manuscript. If, after acceptance or even post-publication, plagiarism or duplication of previously published work is detected, the case is referred to the JFINES executive board for a thorough investigation. This process includes:

  • Inquiry: The board conducts a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged plagiarism, allowing the authors to present their case.
  • Outcome: If the investigation confirms that plagiarism has occurred, the following actions may be taken:
    • Retraction of the published article.
    • Notification to the authors’ affiliated institutions and funding agencies.
    • Public disclosure of the retraction in the journal, ensuring transparency in the publication record.
  • No Refund: In cases of retraction due to confirmed plagiarism, the Article Processing Charge (APC) will not be refunded or adjusted.

4.0 Ethical Commitment

JFINES adheres to the ethical guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). We are dedicated to ensuring that all published work is original and properly attributed, and we take any allegations of plagiarism seriously.

We encourage authors to familiarize themselves with ethical guidelines and to use appropriate citation and referencing practices to avoid any issues related to plagiarism.
