Authors Guidelines

1.0 Overview

Thank you for considering the Journal of Food Innovations, Nutrition, and Environmental Sciences (JFINES) for your manuscript submission. These guidelines provide essential information to assist you in preparing and submitting your manuscript. Adherence to these guidelines will help expedite the review and publication process. 2.0 Preparation Checklist

Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that you have completed the following:

  • ORCID: Ensure that all authors, or at least the corresponding author, have an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID). This is free to obtain at
  • Submission Metadata: Gather the full names, academic titles, email addresses, phone numbers, affiliations, and postal addresses of all contributors.
  • Originality: Confirm that the manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.
  • File Format: Prepare your manuscript in Microsoft Word format. PDF submissions are not accepted.
  • Referencing: Use the latest APA referencing style for citations and references, including URLs or DOIs where available.
  • Text Formatting: Use Times New Roman font, size 12, with double line spacing. Ensure all illustrations, figures, and tables are embedded within the text at appropriate points.
  • Abstract and Keywords: Include an abstract of up to 250 words and a maximum of 4 keywords.
  • Word Count: Ensure that your manuscript does not exceed 7000 words, excluding references.

Failure to meet these requirements may result in your manuscript being returned before the review process begins.

3.0 How to Submit

Currently, JFINES only accepts and processes manuscripts submitted via our online submission system. Manuscripts submitted by email will not be processed. Submissions can be made in one of two ways:

3.1 Online Submission

  • Visit the JFINES website and click the "Submit manuscript" button to upload your manuscript.
  • You must register or log in to your account before submitting. Ensure that your account details are accurate and up to date.

3.2 ORCID Requirement

 ORCID: ORCID is recommended for all authors (required for the corresponding author where possible). Register free at: https://orcid.org/register

4.0 Manuscript Files, Structure, and Formatting (Double-Blind Review)

Required files (two files):

  1. Anonymised Manuscript (Main File — for peer review):

    • Title (without author names/affiliations)

    • Abstract (≤250 words) and up to 4 keywords

    • Main text (Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusion). Results and Discussion (may be combined or separate).

    • References (APA)

    • Figures and tables embedded at relevant points with captions

    • Do NOT include author names, affiliations, emails, phone numbers, acknowledgements, funding numbers that identify authors, or self-identifying statements (e.g., “in our previous study…”). Use neutral phrasing.

  2. Title Page (Separate File — not shared with reviewers):

    • Manuscript title

    • Full names of all authors, affiliations, and ORCID(s) (where available)

    • Corresponding author details (email, phone, postal address)

    • Funding statement (if applicable)

    • Conflict of interest statement

    • Acknowledgements (if any)

Formatting:

  • Microsoft Word only (no PDF)

  • Times New Roman, size 12, double spacing

  • Maximum 7,000 words excluding references

  • Figures/tables embedded in the text where they should appear

5.0 Ethical Considerations

  • Ethics Statement: For studies involving human or animal subjects, provide evidence of ethical approval by the relevant institutional review board or ethics committee. 
  • ethics approval number/ID and committee name

  • consent procedures where applicable

  • Conflict of Interest: This is mandatory. Declare any potential conflicts of interest immediately after the acknowledgments section. Even “No conflicts declared” is fine.
  • Funding: All manuscripts submitted must declaire funding source. 
  • Data Availability: Include a statement regarding the availability of data used in your study.

6.0 Types of Articles

JFINES accepts the following types of submissions:

  • Original Research: Comprehensive studies with novel findings.
  • Review Articles: Summaries of recent developments in a particular field.
  • Case Studies: In-depth analysis of specific instances of phenomena.
  • Short Communications: Brief reports on new research findings.

7.0 Review and Publication Process

  • Peer Review: JFINES follows a double-blind peer review process as described in our Peer Review Policy. Manuscripts are reviewed by at least two experts in the field.
  • Revisions: Authors may be asked to revise their manuscript based on reviewers' feedback. Revised manuscripts should be resubmitted promptly for further consideration.
  • Publication Fees: Currently, there are no charges to authors for processing or publication of articles. If there is any change to this policy, it will be communicated/updated here and on our APC page. Please do not send money to anyone claiming to help you publish your article in JFINES. 8.0 Post-Publication

  • Corrections and Retractions: Errors discovered post-publication should be reported immediately. Corrections or retractions will be handled in accordance with our editorial policies.
  • Copyright and Licensing: Published work is available under a Creative Commons license, adhering to our open access policy.

9.0 Submission Timeline

JFINES accepts submissions on a rolling basis. There are no specific deadlines, allowing for continuous submission throughout the year. JFINES aims for an initial decision in ~3–4 weeks, depending on reviewer availability.
