About the Journal
The Journal of Food Innovation, Nutrition and Environmental Sciences (JFINES) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal that publishes research at the intersection of food science, food technology, nutrition, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, and sustainable food systems.
The journal provides a platform for original and methodologically sound research that contributes to knowledge, practice, policy, innovation, and capacity development in food, nutrition, agriculture, environment, and related applied sciences. JFINES welcomes contributions from researchers, practitioners, postgraduate students, policy actors, and interdisciplinary teams working on issues relevant to local, regional, and global development.

JFINES publishes articles on a continuous publication model. Under this model, accepted manuscripts are published online after completion of editorial assessment, peer review, revision where required, copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and final production checks. This allows articles to become available once they are ready for publication, while maintaining the journal’s commitment to quality control and editorial integrity.
Each publishing year is organised into one volume. Articles may be grouped into issues during the year for purposes of organisation, archiving, citation, and indexing. The journal website is updated as articles are published
Journal Content Preservation/Archiving

JFINES is committed to the long-term accessibility and preservation of published scholarly content. The journal uses digital preservation and archiving mechanisms available through its publishing platform and other recognised preservation services, where applicable.
The journal’s aim is to ensure that published articles remain accessible, discoverable, and preserved for long-term scholarly use. JFINES continues to strengthen its preservation, metadata, and archiving practices in line with recognised standards for open-access scholarly publishing.
Peer Review and Editorial Process
JFINES applies an editorial screening and peer-review process to all submitted manuscripts. Each manuscript is first assessed by the editorial office or handling editor to determine whether it fits the journal’s scope, follows the author guidelines, meets basic scholarly standards, and complies with ethical requirements.
Manuscripts that pass initial screening are normally sent for peer review. JFINES uses a double-blind peer-review model, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other. In exceptional circumstances, the journal may use another appropriate review model where this is necessary and where it does not compromise the integrity of the review process.
The journal aims to obtain comments from at least two suitably qualified reviewers. Editorial decisions are based on the reviewers’ reports, the handling editor’s assessment, the manuscript’s scholarly quality, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
Possible editorial decisions include:
- accept;
- minor revision;
- major revision;
- resubmit for further review;
- reject.
The final decision on all manuscripts rests with the editorial team.
Review Timelines and Publication Process
JFINES is committed to handling manuscripts in a timely and responsible manner. However, review and publication timelines may vary depending on manuscript quality, reviewer availability, the extent of revisions required, and the volume of submissions under consideration.
The journal normally aims to complete initial editorial screening within a reasonable period after submission. Manuscripts that proceed to peer review are handled as efficiently as possible, while allowing adequate time for careful and constructive expert evaluation.
After acceptance, manuscripts undergo final editorial checks, copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, DOI registration where applicable, and online publication. Authors are expected to respond to editorial queries and proof corrections promptly to avoid delays.
JFINES does not guarantee acceptance or publication within a fixed period. The journal prioritises editorial quality, ethical compliance, and the integrity of the peer-review process.
